How many times have you moderators on computer security message boards heard this one? The answer is quite simple really. All you need is a direct connection from you to the person's computer, and a wonderful little command that comes with all windows systems called netstat. Netstat displays active connections and protocol statistics.
Now to get someone's IP on these messenger you would need a direct connection. I will explain why in a bit. Now to get a direct connection you would need to have some sort of file transferring, voice chat session, or even a web cam session with Windows NetMeeting.
Ok say you are sending a file to someone and you want to get his or her IP. First you would need to open up the MS-Dos Prompt or Command Prompt or the little black window thingy to the computer illiterate. Just follow the same format I showed you early on how to find your IP address. You know, Start, Programs, Command Prompt. Ok now you should have the Dos Prompt window up. While you are transferring/receiving a file, or voice chatting with someone, type in the command netstat -n. You should see something like this
C:\WINDOWS>netstat -n
Active Connections
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP 211.124.228.98:1138 64.4.13.69:1863 ESTABLISHED
TCP 211.124.228.98:1150 64.4.12.190:1863 ESTABLISHED
TCP 211.124.228.98:6891 12.90.50.93:1978 ESTABLISHED
The above is an example I got from using the netstat -n command on a friend. The two above commands are from the MSN messenger service. There are two because I am chatting to two people at this time. So while I was transferring a file to this person I did the netstat -n command and got their IP number (12.90.50.93).

How to format a USB Flash Drive with NTFS file system?
Normally we format out USB Flash Drives with FAT / FAT 32 Files systems. In Fact, Windows XP can format your USB Pen Drive in NTFS, just you have to make some changes to make it work. I am posting here a simple tutorial which will guide you through the entire procedure.Enabling NTFS on flash drives might have several benefits which is listed below.
Why should I Format USB Drive with NTFS File System :
It allows the use of file compression to stretch the capacity of your disk. You can use NTFS to allow and deny permissions for individual files and folders in XP, which you can’t do with FAT.
Follow the simple steps :
1.Right click My Computer and select Manage.
2.Click on the Device Manager at the left side window
3.Now click on Disk Drives, select your USB Pen Drive, Right Click on it and select Properties.
4.Choose Policies tab and select the “Optimize for performance” option & Click OK.
5.Now go to My Computer, Right Click on the USB Pen Drive and select Format Option.
6.You will see the NTFS option in the dropdown box, so just select NTFS in the File System dropdown box.
7.That’s it. You are done.

Boot And Run Windows Xp From A Pen Drive
BartPE will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS file systemsupport.
Don't confuse BartPE with Microsoft's Official Windows PE. BartPE has got some interesting features as compared to Windows PE and it's a freeware.
Requirements To Install BartPE :
- USB Flash drive with at least 256 MB of storage capacity.
- The files from your Windows Installation CD-Rom.
- PE Builder, condenses the original setup data for Windows XP into a slender operating system that is ready to run from or a USB flash drive.
- This compact, portable version of Windows includes all the important system tools for dealing with a PC emergency.
- You can even add other programs to this collection, such as the media writing tool Nero Burning ROM or an anti-spyware package such as Ad-Aware SE Personal, during the installation process.
Steps Involved :
- Download the latest PE Builder version (self-installing package) and install it.
- Start PE Builder (pebuilder.exe) and insert Microsoft Windows XP installation/setup CD, it will condense the setup files into your pen drive.
- At the main PE Builder dialog, select the "Pen Drive" option. Hit the "build" button. PE Builder will now ask you to create a BartPE directory, answer with "yes".
- PE Builder will now start building BartPE. This will take a few minutes. You will see a lot of files getting copied and/or decompressed, into your pen drive. If the data verify was correct and there where no errors reported you can boot the Pen Drive.

AUTORUN.INF virus. Is it in my system? How to check?
Start ->Run->(Type)Command
Type CD\ in drive C to go the root directory
Type DIR /AH and press ENTER key.
This will show all hidden files in drive C.
If you could see "AUTORUN.INF file" and "Recycled folder", then your computer is infected.
How to check it's in my USB?
Try the same steps to your USB drive and check if your USB stick contains the Recycled folder and AUTORUN.INF file. If it does then your USB is really infected.
